Ancient Crocodiles
by Rev. Raymond Parnell

“Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?” (Job 41:1). It is believed that this scripture is referring to the crocodile. Crocodiles, alligators, gavials, and caymans look much alike and are all called crocodilians. Crocodiles are large reptiles which eat many small animals and occasionally attack people.

Alligators are very common in Florida and can grow to twelve feet in length. They are not as aggressive, however, as crocodiles. It is thought that one of the sons of Rockefeller was killed by a salt water crocodile.

The snouts of these reptiles are different, the alligator’s being rounded while the crocodile’s is pointed. A notable fact is that the lower fourth tooth is extra long in both animals. It fits into a pit in the alligator’s upper jaw, but the crocodile’s fourth tooth fits into a groove in the side of the upper jaw. Who would want to get that close to differentiate?

The Washington Post reported that paleontologists have discovered the bones of crocodiles which lived in another age. This creature was a silent stalker, as long as a school bus and weighed almost 18,000 pounds. It cruised the primeval rivers of what is now Saharan Africa looking for unwary dinosaurs to snatch and eat. The giant remains were discovered in an area of Niger called Gadoufaou, [the place where camels fear to tread]. Sarchosuchus imperator (flesh-eating crocodile emperor) was 37 to 40 feet long with four foot jaws. Today’s largest Australian crocodiles are no more than 21 feet weighing a bit over one ton.

I do not doubt or question the existence of dinosaurs and giant crocodiles because their bones bear evidence of their reality. I do, however, strongly reject the theory of evolution. Those giant animals lived during the fifth day of creation, the time when Lucifer and angels occupied the earth. The Bible says that those animals were made from water while people and animals living today were created from dust. All praise be to God for his marvelous creations, but especially for entrusting Sarchosuchus imperator to angels, and permitting us to deal only with alligators and crocodiles in 2001!
