Welcome to the Christ Memorial Temple Scrip Program
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When our organization members / customers purchase scrip, they’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash. The scrip is issued by the national and local retailers where many of our organization families already shop. These merchants want to support non profit organizations, and in return ask you to support them by shopping with scrip at their stores. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase you earn revenue for Christ Memorial Temple.
How scrip generates revenue for Christ Memorial Temple
The Great Lakes Scrip Center purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Christ Memorial Temple buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount price, and re-sells the gift card or certificates to church family members at full face value. The bulk of the discount – from two to fifteen percent or more – is retained by Christ Memorial Temple as revenue.
Scrip is “shopping cart fundraising”
The reason for the effectiveness of scrip is simple: Families produce revenue by making purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, gasoline, even vacation needs such as hotels and cruise lines can be purchased with scrip. An organization of 150 supporting families easily spends between one and two million dollars per year on food, clothing and other essentials. If these families use scrip for these purchases, they can raise as much as $40,000 to $80,000 per year for their organization -- without spending an additional penny.
Retailers like scrip, too
Families who purchase scrip certificates actively support the retailers who participate in this program. The reason is simple…they know that buying from a scrip participating retailer provides a steady source of revenue for their church.

Where do the scrip certificates come from?
Great Lakes Scrip Center purchases the certificates directly from the retailers. The certificates Christ Memorial Temple provide to our customers are the same gift certificates you would buy if you went to participating retailer and purchased them yourself.
Can I use the scrip certificates anywhere?
Yes, the certificates are accepted at all participating retailer locations nationwide.
Is there a minimum amount of certificates that I have to order?
No, GLSC has no minimum order amount. There are no requirements for ordering. You can order as frequently or infrequently as you wish. Christ Memorial Temple schedules their scrip orders once a week.
Does it cost a family anything to participate? Do they have to sell anything?
No. Families simply pay Christ Memorial Temple face value for the certificates they order. The beauty of the scrip concept lies in the fact that CMT members raise money for the youth group by using their existing household shopping budget. Some families may enlist relatives, friends and neighbors to buy scrip. But unlike other fundraising programs, scrip families do not have to “sell” anything to raise money.
When will I get my order?
Orders are placed on Sunday evening. Please have all orders turned into the scrip department by Sunday evening. You will receive your order no later than the Wednesday of the same week. Signature is required for order pick up.
What does the youth department use the funds for?
The revenue generated is used to support youth activities that are held from 7-9 p.m. every Friday night, summer youth camps, books and literature needed for biblical education, and sponsorship of other fundraising programs held throughout the year.
